Termites thrive off four elements – food, moisture, shelter, and ideal temperatures. In addition to partnering with Bizzy Bee Exterminators for your termite treatment needs, there are things you can do to help minimize these elements around your home! Allow us to dive into detail about what a termite must have to survive:

1. Termites need a food source.

When you remove a termite’s food source, they will seek it elsewhere. We can take care of protecting your home against termites, but there are more ways you can deter them from staying near your home. Termites will eat cellulose material, so make sure to throw away any of the following items that may be attracting termites to your home:

  • Cardboard
  • Decaying or dead trees
  • Firewood piles
  • Paper
  • Straw

2. Termites must have moisture.

Termites will seek moist areas to live, work, and eat. We encourage you to regularly walk around your home to see if there are areas with sitting water and address those areas immediately. Also, check areas in your home that might attract moisture like your crawlspace or basement. Lastly, if the wood siding on your house meets the ground (no cement in between the siding and the ground), this could attract termites to your home.

3. Termites seek shelter.

Termites seek shelter to keep them safe from other pests, the weather, humans, and more. You’ll find them in decaying trees, homes, structures – any place that will provide the necessary elements for survival. (We can help make sure your home doesn’t become their home! Call us: 1-800-273-4958)

4. Termites need ideal temperatures.

Termites need temperatures between 75 degrees and 95 degrees in order to live. Unfortunately for Georgians, we see those temperatures nearly 7 or 8 months out of the year! If the temperatures get much lower than 75 or higher than 95, termites will start to die. You can’t control the weather, but you can control your termite treatment.
