Termites seek out sources of cellulose, a polymer that can be found in cotton, plants, and wood (including wood-based products like paper, cardboard, and mulch). Keep these types of things away from the foundation of your house to avoid attracting termites in the first place.

By eliminating some of their food sources, you will also be eliminating some of their ways into your house. Additionally, be wary of any cracks in brick or concrete foundations of your house.
