Cockroaches like to come out at night and feast on food crumbs and grease that you may have left behind on the kitchen stove, countertops, and floor. After each meal, make sure you use hot soapy water to wipe down all appliances and countertops.
(Did you know that a cockroach will also eat pet food?! If your animal’s food is not finished at night, cover it or throw it out.)
Empty Your Trash Can Daily
Your trash can is a gold mine for cockroaches, as it stores all the opened, unused food! At the end of each day, throw your trash into outdoor bins and keep these bins away from the house. Basically, minimize as much available food as possible.
Seal Entry Points
A cockroach can squeeze into small openings, so it’s important to seal all cracks and crevices in your home. Here are a few places to look:
- Cracks under doors
- Void space near utility pipes
- Crevices near windows
Vacuum or Sweep Your Home Weekly
Did you know that cockroaches will leave droppings, egg sacs, and feces when they’re on the run? These particles can cause allergies to flare and, even worse, attract other roaches to the site! Every week, vacuum or sweep your entire home at least two times. This will help eliminate these particles.
